I just did well in schoolJun 07 2012Biology
I just did well in school academically. I wasn't involved in a whole bunch of different extracurricular activities. I had a few things that I was really passionate about that demonstrated many sides of my character. I would suggest to do both of these things and have a really good essay that shows a part of yourself to the admissions committee.

I was extremely involved in different activities in my high school, participated in sports, did community service, and had a really great GPA. Having said all that, I did not do very great on the SATs and did not get into my first choice school. Looking back on it, however, I truly believe the saying "everything happens for a reason" because I really couldn't see myself happy anywhere else.

I've worked since I was 14 and have held 2 jobs that were both very different from each other- one was an office job that demanded me to use my brain and be able to figure things out while the other was a job working with people and demanded that I be open and friendly and know how to work as a team.
I was also very involved in a few clubs in HS- I didn't join a million clubs but got VERY involved in the ones that I was in.
Lastly, I worked really hard to be able to improve my grades each year- always show progress!!

Be super involved in extracurricular activities! Marist expects their students to be involved on campus and in the community, it shows a lot if you were involved in high school and had leadership positions. Also, be sure to challenge yourself to more difficult classes (and do well in them!) Marist is increasingly becoming more popular, and therefore more selective. Do everything you can to show you can excel with academics and socially!

I recommend that students should really show their true self when submitting their personal response essay. Even though they offer you choices to write about, I chose to write about my experiences throughout my life to that point, and felt that along with my exceptional grades, further increased my chances of getting into the school. I also recommend attending the Summer PreCollege Program if they offer a program in your area of interest! I attended summer going into my Senior year, and I believed attending the program put me at a slight advantage over other students, because Admissions and the Fashion Department had an idea of what my capabilities were!
